Ground consolidation is a critical phase in tunnel construction, aimed at ensuring stability especially in weak or fractured ground conditions.
This is achieved through techniques such as rock bolting, forepoling, umbrella arching (pipe canopies installed ahead of the tunnel face), grout injection to improve ground properties and control water inflows, and drainage holes to relieve hydrostatic pressure. The installation of these systems is typically carried out using dedicated tunnelling drilling rigs. In addition to tunnel pre-support operations, Comacchio tunnelling rigs be easily configured for micropiles, anchors, and other ground engineering applications. This multi-purpose capability allows contractors to maximize equipment utilization while maintaining high standards of accuracy, productivity, and performance, even in confined or complex jobsite conditions.
